explored the Sea Lions Cave
|
World's Largest Sea Cave |
The Sea lion Cave was formed almost 25 million years ago and is now home to about 200 Steller sea lions. There is an elevator access to 208 feet down into the cave, The Cave is 12 stories high and as wide as a football field.
Below: Sea
Lions in the cave. They can swim into the Pacific Ocean whenever they
want. |
|
Below: View from inside the cave looking outside into the Pacific Ocean. |

|
Below: These two seagulls
were communicating something to each other - maybe a mating ritual ? |
|
Below: Just outside the cave,
the two RV Gypsies looked down the cliff and saw more sea lions in the
Pacific Ocean. Also, they saw the Heceta Head Lighthouse from here (the
small white speck on the edge of the black cliff in the below photos). |
|
Below: Not only were there lots of sea lions making lots of noise, but lots of birds (the dark specks) and lots of bird poop (the white specks) LOL
Below: Lee Duquette on
the step pathway down to a viewing area. |
|
Note: The two RV Gypsies returned here in 2013 with Karen Duquette's sister, ilse Blahak. The photos and experiences are very different. If you wish to jump ahead in years to see the difference, you may do so now. There is a link at the bottom of the sea lion page to return you here. |
