The Two RV Gypsies: Full-Time RVers
walked across their 19th suspension bridge
this time at The Gatlinburg Skybridge
August 25, 2020

#1 - The Gatlinburg Skybridge is located at the top of the iconic Sky Lift. The Gatlinburg Skybridge is said to be the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in North America and the most spectacular experience in the Smokies. From the mountain-top Sky Deck, the Skybridge literally crosses the sky as it stretches 680 feet across a deep valley in a single span. The two RV Gypsies MIGHT just rate this as the #1 suspension bridge out of the 19 suspension bridges they have walked across. Although it is really hard to decide which suspension bridge was the most fun. This one had way too many people on it to be really fun.

The next best six bridges are listed here, not necessarily by length or height, but by scare and fun factor, meaning the height above the canyon and the amount of SHAKE on the bridge. All 19 suspension bridges can be found by clicking here: TOC-S then scrolling down to suspension bridges. Click on the underlined words to see and read more about each bridge, but be sure to return here afterwards.

# 2 - The Capilano Suspension Bridge which is only 450 feet long and 230 feet above the floor of the Capilano Canyon in Vancouver, Canada. This is not the longest, but it was the 2nd most impressive suspension bridge. It shook a lot more than the Gatlinburg bridge. And there were several other shorter suspension bridges above the same grounds, which added to the fun.

# 3 - Canada's Longest walk-on Suspension Bridge at Eagle Canyon Adventures in Dorion, Ontario is 600 feet long, and 152 feet high, plus a smaller secondary suspension bridge in the same area which was only 300 feet across and 125 feet from the bottom of the gorge. Both moved a lot, which made them fun for the two RV Gypsies.

#4 - The Royal Gorge Suspension Bridge in Canon, Colorado is 18 feet wide with a main span of 880 feet. The walkway is made of 1,270 planks of deck. Because it was wide and a bit more stabilized, it was not the most impressive even though it is longer than the Gatlinburg bridge, but the view was spectacular.

#5 The Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge is only360 feet long, but it was over a breathtaking gorge with 360 degree views of a deep ravine.

#6 - The Swinging Bridge at Kootenai Falls in Montana - size was not listed, but it moved a lot, so the two RV Gypsies liked it.

#7 - Canada's Longest Pedestrian Bridge, Souris, Manitoba is 604 feet long. It was very low to the ground. A single person can swing the bridge.

The two RV Gypsies have also walked on swinging bridges that were part of their various zipline experiences. They are not included in the above count. This count could change as more travel in future years occur.

The two RV Gypsies walked across the bridge at their own pace, even though it was the most crowded suspension bridge they have been on. They enjoyed the views and spectacular scenery. With a height of 150 feet at its midpoint, the Sky Bridge was an incredible but easily attainable experience. The two RV Gypsies especially loved the short glass-floor panels in the middle of the span and watching all the people that actually found the glass panels intimidating.
