Karen and Lee Duquette prepare to become
Two RV Gypsies: Full-Time RVers

January 2008 - The Beginning of a different lifestyle for Lee and Karen Duquette.

Karen and Lee Duquette sold their home and most of their belongings. While waiting for Lee Duquette to retire before they could "hit the road" full-time, they lived in their RV in Markham Park, Broward County, FLorida, so they would still be near their family and friends for awhile longer.

As soon as Lee Duquette retires, they will "hit the road" and begin a whole new lifestyle. Of course they will return to Florida for a few months in the winter to be near family, but that will NOT make them "snowbirds" because:

(a) They do NOT have a home elsewhere
(b) They lived in Florida for 40 years, so they will always claim Florida as their home, even though they will be traveling to other states in their RV. And Florida is the only place they really know their way around different places.
(c) Plus they pay for a campground in Florida all year round even if they are not there. And they will keep a Florida drivers license as they travel.

Markham Park, Sunrise/Weston, Florida is a nice size county park, and the people in the office were very helpful and friendly. However, it is not just a campground, so when the park holds a special event, everyone entering the park, including RVers, wait in line to get into the park for an hour or more because so many locals participate in these special events. During those times, the two RV Gypsies do not leave the park unless they leave early morning and return late evening.

Also since it is not JUST a campground, there are no activity buildings. The pool is open to the public but only open certain times of the year, and it costs on a daily basis to everyone, including RVers who are paying to camp or park at Markham Park. The two RV Gypsies never used the pool there, nor the nice dog park or target range (which can be heard in most motorhomes). But they have watched people enjoying the model airplane flying field, and they have walked on the berm several times.
