NOTE: Visitors to this page probably should click here to see the 2020 Segway tour, which covers some, but not all of these same spots. Actually, both sets of photos are mostly different. If you choose to visit the 2020 page, there will be a link at the bottom of that page to bring you here, so you can see how each visit was different.

program

Below: As mentioned above, this was Karen and Lee Duquette's 38th Segway tour, but they also took this Segway tour as their 23rd Segway tour. But the experiences and places they visited each time were mostly different.

The photo directly below was taken before the 2024 tour at Riverwalk Landing, a place they also visited and photographed more extensively in 2020, when they did a bit of walking in this area.

Below: This time in 2024, the Segway tour went onto a grassy hill which gave them a different view of the bridge shown above.

Below: The Yorktown Victory Monument is one place that was also part of their first tour in this area. It is a marble statue commemorating the victory, the alliance with France that brought it about, and the resulting peace with Great Britain after the war. Designed by New York architect Richard Morris Hunt, the monument was installed in 1884 and topped by a figure of Liberty sculpted by John Quincy Adams Ward. That element was destroyed by lightning in 1942. It was replaced in 1957 by a figure of Victory by Oskar J. W. Hansen with a lightning rod on top.

During their 2020 tour and this 2024 tour, they were NOT allowed to ride the Segways near the monument. During each tour, they were also NOT given time to get off the Segways and walk up to the monument, so the pictures shown below were taken by Karen Duquette later on in the day in 2024, after the Segway tour was over.

The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown tells the story of the nation’s founding, from the twilight of the colonial period to the dawn of the Constitution and beyond. Indoor galleries feature period artifacts, immerse environments and films, including “The Siege of Yorktown,” with a 180-degree surround screen and dramatic special effects.

Below: Visitors can also explore the outdoor areas and visit a re-created Continental Army encampment to learn about the life of a soldier and take in daily demonstrations on medical treatment, camp life and cooking, and see firings of a flintlock musket. There is also a Revolution-era farm, based on a real-life 18th-century family, to help with chores in the house, kitchen, tobacco barn, gardens and crops.
