The Yorktown Victory Monument is a marble statue commemorating the victory, the alliance with France that brought it about, and the resulting peace with Great Britain after the war. Designed by New York architect Richard Morris Hunt, the monument was installed in 1884 and topped by a figure of Liberty sculpted by John Quincy Adams Ward. That element was destroyed by lightning in 1942. It was replaced in 1957 by a figure of Victory by Oskar J. W. Hansen with a lightning rod on top. |

After the Segway tour, the two RV Gypsies stopped to eat at the Water Street Grille and sat outside. The food and service was very good. |

Karen Duquette had the Shrimp Bowl - A 1/2 pound of Spiced Steamed Shrimp, Corn on the Cobb, Potatoes and Smoked Sausage in a Cajun Garlic Butter ($26). It was very good. However, Karen hates eating from plastic bags or on paper plates or newspaper. Lee Duquette had Fish and Chips
which was also very good. |

After eating, the two RV Gypsies walked around Riverwalk Landing and took some photos. |

Below: "According to York County's social media pages, the statue of Marquis de Lafayette had to be removed from his place at Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown after his head fell off. In a Facebook comment, the county said it was unclear how the head became detached. Artist Cyd Player was able to perform some light maintenance and put the good head back on his shoulders. Public Works reinstalled the statue alongside the statues of George Washington and Francois Joseph Paul de Grass."
