The
Two RV Gypsies: Full-Time RVers took Karen's sister, Ilse Blahak to Ruby Falls on Lookout Mountain July 21, 2014 |
Ruby Falls Cave combines with Lookout Mountain Cave to form the Lookout Mountain Caverns. The two caves are NOT actually connected by any passage. Ruby Falls Cave is the upper of the two and contains a variety of geological formations and curiosities which Lookout Mountain Cave does not have. There is an elevator to get down into the cave.

Below: The Falls are located at the end of the main passage of Ruby Falls Cave in a large vertical shaft. The stream, 1,120 feet underground, is fed both by rainwater and natural springs. It collects in a pool in the cave floor and then continues through the mountain until finally joining the Tennessee River at the base of Lookout Mountain. Lights at the bottom of the falls gives the illusion that the water changes colors.
Below; When the two RV Gypsies were last here in 2011 with their grandson, they were able to walk behind the waterfall, but the guide said that can no longer be done because people complained. Well, what about all the people who did NOT complain? What about the people who complain that they only came to walk behind the falls? That was Karen Duquette's favorite part of this tour, so she was disappointed and will NOT return again, nor will she bring people here anymore, and she will NOT recommend this cave to anyone, even through she has been here about four different times.

Below: Andy, the guide at Ruby Falls was a funny person and kept the tour interesting. But the tour group was so large (three elevators full of people) that he was not able to talk a lot about Ruby Falls. The other three times that the two RV Gypsies were at Ruby Falls, the tour groups were smaller (only one elevator full of people) and the guides told more about Ruby Falls, its history, and the formations. Oh well, the two RV Gypsies will NOT return to Ruby Falls anyway now that they can not walk behind the waterfall. That was what made this cave more unique than the other caves that the two RV Gypsies have visited. |
