The
Two RV Gypsies: Full-Time RVers and Karen Duquette's sister, Ilse Blahak at Rock City on Lookout Mountain July 21, 2014 (photos by Karen, Lee, and Ilse) |
Rock City is a roadside attraction near Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Lookout Mountain in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, located near Ruby Falls. Rock City features a long, convoluted rock trail lined with gardens containing hundreds of labeled local trees and plants. The trail also leads through a variety of bizarre rock formations, including the 1000-ton Balanced Rock and the Fat Man's Squeeze. This is at least the 4th time the two RV Gypsies have been to Rock City, but the first time for Karen Duquette's sister, Ilse Blahak. (Karen and Lee Duquette used to live in Chattanooga, TN for two years. Maybe someday, those Flashbacks might get posted on this website). |

Below: The menu at the restaurant looked like it would be good food, but it was way back towards the end of the park, and everyone was already hungry, so they settled for Big Rock Grill inside Rock City. They sat on the tables outside because it was even hotter inside than outside. The food was not very good. |

Legend states that a Native American man who loved a woman from a rival tribe was thrown from the lookout when his love was discovered.
Below: Ilse Blahak photographed the two RV Gypsies at Lover's Leap - Neither one felt the need to jump and they do NOT recommend that anyone does either! NO, NO, AND MORE NO!!!! |
|
Below: Then Karen Duquette photographed Ilse Blahak where she was standing when she took the above photos. |

The publicity and lore claim that it is possible to see seven states from Lover's Leap, a point in Rock City, but this has not been proven scientifically. The patio below shows a layout of the seven states.
Below are photos from the base of the 7 state flags. More than one side had information printed on it, but because of the type of stone material the bases were made out of, some were hard to read. |

Rock City ends with a section called Magic Valley, Fairyland Caverns and Mother Goose Village with rock caves that are decorated with blacklight-responsive sculptures. Karen Duquette did not photograph this section because those photos are already on this website and can be seen through this link. which will take you to Rock City in 2011. A link at the bottom of the 2011 page will bring you back here, so you can continue with the other sections at the bottom of this page. |
|
BELOW: Something new since the two RV Gypsies' visit in 2011 - FREE WINE TASTING. So Ilse Blahak and Karen Duquette enjoyed partaking of the wine. But it was all sweet wine, so they did not buy any. Lee Duquette never drinks anymore, and he never did like wine anyway. |
