The Two RV Gypsies: Full-Time RVers
explored Lockport Cave
and experienced an underground boat ride with their grandson
in Lockport, New York
July 27, 2011

The two RV Gypsies and their grandson, Alex Jones, went to the Lockport Cave and Underground Boat Ride in Lockport, NY, on the Erie Canal, a 20 minute drive from Niagara Falls and they took a 70-minute guided tour that began with a brief walk past the historic Erie Canal Locks (the same locks they rode on earlier), plus past some ruins from an earlier industrial age.

Then they entered the man-made cave and walked through a water tunnel that was blasted out of solid rock in the 1850s, viewing a few stalactites, flow stone, various geological formations and artifacts left behind by the men who built the tunnel in the early days of the Erie Canal.

Then they took an underground boat ride that was peaceful as the boat glided through the lifeless water, illuminated only by small, sporadically placed electric lights. Enjoy the photos below, the continue on to Fort Niagara and the lighthouse.

If the two RV Gypsies ever return to this area, they would NOT take this boat ride again. But they wanted to provide their grandson with the experience. If you have never done something like this, then go for it if you want to!
