Below: The El Reno Mother
Road Monument was erected in 2018, just days before the town’s famous
Fried Onion Burger Day festival. Designed by Oklahoma City business
PremierCraft, it was created to provide a fun photo opportunity for
Route 66 travelers, like the two RV Gypsies. The idea for the giant
Route 66 shield came from Mayor Matt White, who was inspired by other
popular photo spots he saw on the Arizona stretch of the road. It is
a 10-foot, three-dimensional Route 66 sign.
The number 66 on the sign is cut out, which gave Lee and Karen Duquette
room to pose INSIDE the sign known as "The Mother Road Monument". |

Below: Guardian of the Mother Road is
located just off The Mother Road on the west side of El Reno. The two
RV Gypsies came to the 100’ x 128’ 50-foot tall cinder block wall that
once served as a drive-in screen. The mural titled “This Land” on
the north side of the structure was completed in 2014 and features the
Oklahoma State Bird, the scissortail.
It was more than a 2-year process to paint the 12,800 square foot mural.
The process aired on an episode of "Gallery About Public Art".
In addition to his mural projects, Sinnett continues to exhibit his
paintings and prints. Unfortunately, when the two RV Gypsies were here
in 2022, the mural was in bad condition and needed a new paint job,
as shown below. |
