Karen Duquette on the trail to Saugerties Lighthouse |
|
|
Saugerties Light, known also as the Saugerties Lighthouse, is a lighthouse on the Hudson River at Esopus Creek, north of Saugerties, New York. Height: 46 feet.
When it was built in 1869, it replaced the earlier 1838 lighthouse. Its Coast Guard service was ended in 1954. It is currently managed by the non-profit Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy which purchased the lighthouse in 1986 and has restored it. The conservancy manages the nature trail leading to the lighthouse and offers two bed and breakfast rooms and public tours.
The lighthouse keeper of 1835 was Abraham Persons. He was paid $350 for the year.
The US Coast Guard has identified Saugerties Light as one of its Historic Light Stations in New York. Saugerties Light is shown on the NOAA Chart 12347. |

The two RV Gypsies love their life-style of full-time RVers, traveling all over the USA. |

The two RV Gypsies drove to the Woodstock / New Paltz Arts & Crafts Fair to visit their friend, Cam Chapman. Cam is a fellow RVer and a professional photographer specializing in lighthouses, and he had a booth at the fair on this date. If you are a lighthouse fan, Cam Chapman has the lighthouse photograph sized just right for your home, big or small, and they are really amazing photographs too. Check out some of his work below. |
