Alyeska Resort Aerial Tramway
in Girdwood, Alaska June 16, 2009 |
The Alyeska Resort Aerial Tramway is a seven-minute ride
to a viewing deck which provides breath-taking panoramic views of majestic
mountains, hanging glaciers, sparkling streams, towering spruce, and possibly
an array of wildlife. Two restaurants are open daily during the summer
season at the 2,300 foot level. There are telescopes on the Glacier Terminal
viewing deck to intensify the great view at the ski resort. |
Below: The view from bottom to the top of mountain. It is hard to believe, but many people hike up this mountain, then ride the tram down. NOT the two RV Gypsies! | |

Alyeska as the tram began its ride upward. |
|
Temperature at the bottom of the mountain
was about 50 degrees F and about 40 degrees F at the top. The tram operates
two cars on a counterweight system -- as one car goes up the other car
comes down. Maximum Speed is 26 miles per hour. Average Capacity: Each
of the two cars holds a maximum of 60 persons. 800 persons per hour maximum
in the winter. |
