Lee and Karen Duquette,
The Two RV Gypsies: Full-Time RVers at Thompson Pass in 2009 and 2016 |
| As of the 2009 date, the record snowfall at Thompson Pass was over 5 feet in 24 hours. There were tall markers on the road to keep travelers on the road during whiteout conditions in the winter. (The two RV Gypsies do not plan to ever be here in the winter) There is likely unmelted snowpack in the summer throughout Thompson Pass. Karen Duquette calls it "snow ice". Thompson Pass records between 600 - 900 inches of snow annually. Thompson pass is known as the snowiest place on earth. |
| Just before arriving in Valdez, Alaska in 2009, Lee and Karen Duquette drove through Thompson Pass and stopped at a pull-out to take some photos. After checking in at the campground, they got in their toad and returned to hike the trail. | |

Below: Lee and Karen Duquette returned to Thompson Pass in 2016 with family. There were so many mosquitoes that everyone wanted to leave almost as soon as they got there. So very few pictures were taken. |
