Foxwoods
Resort and Casino was opened in 1986 by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal
Nation, and it has since grown into a massive complex that includes six
casinos, over 2,200 hotel rooms, multiple theaters, spas, and more. The
resort covers an area of 9 million square feet, making it the second-largest
resort casino in the world. One of the most unique things about Foxwoods
is that it is owned and operated by a Native American tribe. The Mashantucket
Pequot Tribal Nation has a long history in Connecticut, and the casino
has helped to bring economic prosperity to the tribe and the surrounding
community. It comprises of casinos, hotels, restaurants, entertainment,
shopping and spas.

Below: Allan Houser, a Chiricahua Apache, was born in Apache, Oklahoma.
(June 30, 1914 – August 22, 1994). He was a Chiricahua Apache
sculptor, painter, and book illustrator and one of the most renowned
Native American painters and Modernist sculptors of the 20th century.
Houser said, “I work not just for myself, but to honor the
American Indian. I hope to draw attention to centuries-old Native American
values, especially the concepts of living in harmony with nature, which
can benefit all people.”
