Daniel Boone was chosen as a prominent
feature of the Kentucky National Guard Memorial from the outset. He
is uniquely linked to Kentucky and its military history. His presence
pays tribute to the roots of todays Kentucky National Guard in the militia
that hacked a state from a Dark and Bloody Ground for an opportunity
to make a better life.
Boone is also a tribute the Boone National Guard Center, the statess
National Guard headquarters that was named in his honor in 1962. New
KYNG officer candidate school graduates are sworn in at Daniel Boone's
grave site in homage to his place in Kentucky Military History. Boone
National Guard Center, the states National Guard headquarters was named
in his honor in 1962. |

Note: In 2011, Lee and Karen Duquette
visited Daniel
Boone's grave site in Frankfort, KY. - although some stories say
he has two graves. If you go there, a link at the bottom of that page
can return you here. |

Since 1912, thousands of
men and women have served in the Kentucky National Guard. Hundreds of
them have perished -- some on foreign battlefields, some on missions
here in Kentucky to save fellow citizens from danger and disaster and
some perished training to accomplish their missions. They each took
a sacred vow to protect us from enemies foreign and domestic. Now it
is your turn. Step forward and help us remember and honor their sacrifices. |
