Located in the
foothills of the Davis Mountains at an elevation of 5,100 feet, the
temperatures are usually cooler than in most other areas of Texas. However,
it was a fairly warm day when the two RV Gypsies arrived here. They
came here because the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center is said to have
hiking trails, walking paths, botanical gardens, a cactus and succulent
greenhouse, Geology and mining exhibits, and interpretive exhibits.
On this date, Adults cost $6.50 each. Children 12 and under plus members
are free. |

Before entering
the Powell Visitor Center to purchase their ticket and get a trail guide
and map, the two RV Gypsies took a few moments to photograph the outside
beauty. |

Below: A small lizard on a
big rock, enjoying the sunshine. It really blended into the rock quite
well. |

Just then, it started raining
so the two RV Gypsies chose not to pay the entry fee to Chihuahuan Desert
Center although they were very disappointed not to be able to explore
its 18-acre fenced garden including the Maxie Templeton Cactus Museum
and the Bird Blind.
And before they got to their next location, they got a flat tire,
but a kind gentlemen stopped and helped them change the tire (after
a bunch of others did not stop to help). So much appreciated. |
