The
Two RV Gypsies: Full-Time RVers |
|
Just down the road from the gondola, the two RV Gypsies came to Shannon Falls, a "do not miss" natural roadside attraction. There was free parking at Shannon Falls Provincial Park on this date, and it was an easy 10-minute walk on a woodland trail to the waterfall’s base. Shannon Falls is about 1,100 feet tall, a prodigious skein of water that pours off cliff faces.Visitors can also walk from Shannon Falls to the Sea to Sky Gondola parking area; it takes about 10 minutes on a flat trail paralleling the highway. |
Below: Shannon Falls is the sixth highest waterfall in British Columbia. Shannon Creek collects its water from Mount Habrich and Sky Pilot Mountain before taking an unrestrained 1,100 foot plummet down a granite cliff face on its way to Howe Sound, one of the continent's most southerly fjords. |
|
Shannon Falls is a classic cascade falls, whose waters pour down precipitously by non-vertical walls in braided tiers and horsetails, as opposed to plunge falls which flow over a ledge and drop vertically without contacting its rock face. |
