Horsetail Falls is a waterfall along the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. The waterfall is easily accessed as it is right next to the Historic Columbia River Highway, in contrast to its near neighbor Oneonta Falls. The shape of the falls and the rounded rock face over which it flows cause it to resemble a horse's tail. There are actually two waterfalls along the creek. The upper falls, called Upper Horsetail Falls or Ponytail Falls, can be accessed from a footpath. The trail's height is 192 feet and its elevation is 224 feet. There are views from 180 degrees around the falls, and some glimpses over the top from Horsetail Falls Trail #438 which leads to Ponytail Falls, its upper counterpart. The falls are commonly said to stand 176 feet tall, but some sources placed its height at 208 feet. |
