Pancake Bay
Provincial Park was established in 1968 by Ontario Parks. It is a recreation-class
Provincial Park created to help preserve the fragile beach dune ecology.
Pancake Bay Provincial Park has one of the highest visitor rates of
all the Provincial Parks in the north-east region, and the highest number
of campsites. There are 325 campsites, including 160 with electricity.
There are 3 comfort stations. (Although the two RV Gypsies did not park
their RV here.) On this date, it did cost to enter the park, even for
a few minutes. |

Pancake Bay is a
sheltered, south-facing bay on the eastern shore of Lake Superior, north
of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. A beautiful sand beach lines the
bay, part of which is within the park boundary. The bay is sand filled
and shallow. This feature is responsible for warming the lake water
providing pleasant swimming. Ancient beach ridges are visible more inland.
The ecology of the region is characteristic of the Great Lakes-St.
Lawrence transition forest, but is a northern shelter for more
southerly flora and fauna. |
