The Maritime Museum was founded in 1968 as a historical and nautical museum representing such items as the famous Fall River Line and RMS Titanic. Known nationwide for its renowned Titanic exhibit, it is one of the world's largest of its type dedicated to that subject.

The main gallery exhibition is entitled "Sails, Paddles & Screws: The History of Maritime Travel and Culture" and showcases the museum's collection to the public in a reinvigorated way through interactive display and the latest in museum exhibit design and programming.
