On this date, major portions
of the park were closed for construction, such as The Castle in The
Air section, but the park was still quite enjoyable. The Theodore M.
Berry International Friendship Park is located along the Ohio River
just east of downtown, next to Sawyer Point, Yeatman’s Cove and Smale
Park (both Yeatman's Cove and Smale park can be seen from the main Ohio
menu).
The park was completed in 2003. Named for Cincinnati's first African
American mayor, it serves as a lasting tribute to world unity and global
understanding. The grand design of the park drew its inspiration in
part from a child's friendship bracelet. Two intertwining walkways guide
park visitors through gardens of the continents in a perpetual celebration
of international peace and friendship. The park features spectacular
and award-winning displays of sculpture and flora representing the five
continents and has a riverside bike trail and walking paths. Leashed
dogs are welcomed.
There is free parking at the park in a small lot on River Road next
to Montgomery Inn Boathouse. This is a shady river walk with a lot of
interesting sections of Gardens that represent different parts of the
world that are sister cities of Cincinnati (although on this date, some
sections were under construction). Stamped concrete pathways have fern,
leaf and animal patterns in them. Peeks of the river may be seen as
you walk through this park. |

The Segway tour guide took
the two RV Gypsies past The Crystalline Tower, which the two RV Gypsies
refer to as funny mirrors, but did not allow time to explore them. So,
after the tour, the two RV Gypsies returned to enjoy the mirrors. (photos
taken on the same day, but they started out with jackets on and then
took their jackets off). |
