Karen
and Lee Duquette,
The Two RV Gypsies: Full-Time RVers
went to Rock City Park
505 Route 16 South
Olean, New York

|
As the two RV Gypsies drove through Olean and other surrounding areas, there were bear crossing signs everywhere, but the two RV Gypsies did not see any bears. |

Below: Rock City Park, located
in the Enchanted Mountains of Cattaraugus County, south of Olean, New
York on Route 16, is sometimes called "one of the Eighth Wonders
of the World" (at least according to their brochure). However,
the two RV Gypsies have seen quite a few places that claim to be called
"one of the Eighth Wonders of the World".
This prehistoric ocean floor is the World’s largest exposure of quartz conglomerate (also called ocean spar or puddings tone) and attracts thousands of visitors yearly. Rock City Park features a three-quarter mile natural trail consisting of various steps and paths necessitating comfortable clothing and good walking shoes. |

Below: The stairs down to Fat Man's Squeeze. In the winter, ice sometimes has to be removed in order to get down into Fat Man's Squeeze. But of course, it was nice weather when the two RV Gypsies visited Rock City Park. |
|

Below: At the
bottom of Fat Man's Squeeze, Lee Duquette came across Dining
Hall Pass. |

The sign shown below stated
that the photo below on the right is shaped like the state of New York
(minus Long Island). Karen Duquette does not see it. Lee Duquette said
he did. |

Camp was believed to have been shelter used by the Senecas as a possible
fortress. |

Below: The big rocks below
were not labeled, but Lee Duquette liked them. |
|
Below: Old
Man of the Rocks: The two RV Gypsies did not agree as to which
formation was referred to as Old Man of the Rocks, so Karen
Duquette took several different photos of the area, then checked on
the internet for the correct photo. Some rock formations really do require
a vivid imagination, and maybe better labels. |
|
Below: The two RV Gypsies guessed that the three trees high up in these rocks are The Three Sisters because the trees looked like they were not growing tall. |

Below is the center section of a Parksburg drilling rig built in 1935 and used until 1962. The rig was built on skids in 3 sections. On one end was the engine house, the brake was in the center, and the band wheel and the derrick were on the other end. This was used during oil lease operations at Rock City Park. Some of the wells are over 100 years old. They are now plugged and no longer in operation. |

crossed over the bridge at Signal Rock Overlook - (Do you remember
the earlier photos of the two RV Gypsies making their way between big
rocks to get a view of the bridge high above?) If not scroll up about
five photos on this page. Well anyway, this is the bridge in that photo. |
|
Below: The two RV Gypsies
arrived back at the top, at the Signal Rock Overlook. According
to the brochures, over 1,000 square miles and approximately 35
miles straight ahead can be seen. Hmmmm! Really???? |

Below: At the end of trail, just outside of the gift shop, Lee Duquette
poked Big Foot in the nose, and then Big Foot grabbed
Lee's butt.
