Two RV Gypsies: Full-Time RVers enjoyed a walk on the beach at Presque Isle Lighthouse in Presque Isle State Park Erie, PA June 17, 2021 |
The Presque Isle Light, historically nicknamed the "Flash Light" is a lighthouse on the shore of Lake Erie in Pennsylvania. It is one of three Lighthouses in Erie, along with the Erie Land Light and the North Pier Light. The two RV Gypsies visited all three of them. |
The peninsula that juts out into Lake Erie along the shores of Pennsylvania forms Erie's natural harbor at Presque Isle Bay. Three lighthouses help protect the harbor with the Presque Isle Lighthouse (shown below) being one of them. The two RV Gypsies visited all three of the lighthouses on this date. |
The Presque Isle Light is 68-feet tall with a focal height of 73-feet. Originally the tower was only 40-feet tall before it was raised to it current height. The lighthouse tower is attached to a 4-bedroom residence used by the lighthouse keeper. |
A Lighthouse keeper lived on the site, which was initially very remote, for many years. Finally, in 1962, the light was made fully automatic. Today, the light is still used to guide boats on Lake Erie. |
The lighthouse is situated o the northern shoreline of Presque Isle state Park, overlooking the beach. As the two RV Gypsies walked along the beach, Karen Duquette took some great photographs of the beach and lighthouse. |
