These comments are just the experience of the two RV Gypsies and do not make the campground good or bad in general.

Illinois welcome sign

The two RV Gypsies stopped at Granite City KOA because it was near the Missouri state border and they wanted to go to the St. Louis Arch once again. As they approached, they were not impressed with the messy industrial area just outside of the campground.

The road leading to the Granite City KOA had a short paved spot, but then became a dirt road. The roads in the campground were all dirt roads. The RV sites were gravel and had a picnic table, but no patio.

As usual, the two RV Gypsies did not spend any time exploring the campground, because most of their time was spent in St. Louis, Missouri. But here are a few comments.

Check out time was 11 A.M., which is standard at most KOA's. A late check out until 2 P.M. may be available for an additional $10. No wood fires allowed in Madison County, Illinois. Clotheslines, hanging anything to the tree, patio rugs, stick spikes in the ground and running a generator in the park are things that are also NOT allowed. TV channels came in OK. The campground had coded Wi-Fi but the two RV Gypsies used their own Wi-Fi. There was a pool and playground which the two RV Gypsies did not use even though it was very hot outside. There was nothing special about this campground.

In the event of severe weather warning by siren, local TV or radio announcement, it was recommend that campground guests to to the bathrooms located behind the Registration Office. It is the only building on the campground that has internal cinder block walls.

Nearby area attractions include The Gateway Arch, Busch Brewery tour, Grant Farm, St. Louis Zoo, botanical gardens, Cahokia Mounds, Lewis & Clark State Historic Site, St. Louis Science Center, Argosy Casino, and Gateway Raceway. The two RV Gypsies were on a time limit because they had a reservation for RV repairs in Forest City, Iowa.
