Cape Breton Highlands National Park, the first national park in the Maritimes, situated in the northern section of Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island, preserves 950 square kilometers of wilderness. Almost half of the Cabot Trail, completed just four years before the opening of the park, encompasses it on three sides. On the western edge, the rugged coastline is exposed to the Gulf of St. Lawrence, while the eastern shores that slope more gently to the Atlantic Ocean curve to form more hospitable little coves and bays.
Breton Highlands National Park is known for its spectacular highlands
and ocean scenery. The Cape Breton Highlands are the most striking feature
of northern Cape Breton. Steep cliffs and deep river canyons carve into
a forested plateau bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the Cabot trail,
a world-famous scenic highway, runs through the national park along the
coasts and over the highlands. The cliffs of Cape Breton Highlands National Park tower
over the rich, natural heritage that is all around. Home to the world-famous
Cabot Trail, the land is blessed with spectacular scenery. It is full
of beauty and wonder.
The bridge shown below is different because the drawbridge housing is hung above the bridge.
Unique signs and things seen by the two RV Gypsies on their quest for beautiful scenery in Nova Scotia.
Cape Breton Highlands National Park is blessed with spectacular scenery, full of beauty and wonder - even on a cloudy day!
Karen really liked the way this big boulder sits part way in the ocean and part way on shore and is divided by different colors and has greenery growing in the cracks of the boulder. Natural beauty at its best.
Another area at Cape Breton Highlands National Park with its own style of natural beauty.
Then a light rain fell and a few minutes later, the photos below were taken at the same area as the above photo - but it was brighter out and there was a marvelous rainbow.
When the two RV Gypsies reached this area of Cape Breton Highlands National Park, it was extremely windy outside and about 60 degrees.
Lakies Head - another windy but beautiful area in Cape Breton Highlands National Park with totally different scenery than above.
