Two RV Gypsies: Full-Time RVers
The two RV Gypsies at Shallotte River
Swamp Park Zipline |
This was Lee Duquette's 9th zipline experience and Karen Duquette's 12th zipline experience. (Only because Karen took some line dance cruises without Lee and did 2 ziplines in different ports, and one baby zipline actually on the ship itself). They can all be seen via the link at the bottom of this page. The cost for the two RV Gypsies to enjoy this zipline on this date was $190.46. |
Below: After Karen Duquette took the first picture shown below, Lee Duquette kept on driving. Karen told Lee that they had to get to the other side of the billboard so she could photograph the face of the man on the top of the billboard. Lee said, "There's a man on top of a billboard?" "You did not see him?" asked Karen. |
Below: From the parking lot, only one of the 10 towers (that zipliners MUST climb) could be seen. |
Below: There is also an Aerial Adventure Section here, partly shown in the one photo below. But the two RV Gypsies do not really like walking the rope courses or wobble bridges. There are 3 different skill levels and 53 different challenge obstacles. Call the park for more information. |
Below: Since The two RV Gypsies arrived early for their zipline tour, they took a brief walk on the Shallotte River Swamp Park Nature Trail (included in the zipline tour otherwise there is a $10 charge). Most people walk the trail just to see the alligators. Of course the two RV Gypsies, being Florida people, have seen lots of alligators, but they walked the trail anyway. |
Below: First view from the trail - no alligators yet. |

Below: Then it was time for the two RV Gypsies to zip along on the Zipline. That is the main reason why the two RV Gypsies took an RV trip to this area. The tour is about 3 hours long and includes 10 zipline stations, three swinging bridges and more than 1.25 miles of cable. There were WELL-OVER 350 stairs (not all at once) and then Karen Duquette lost count. The guides did not know how many stairs were here. There were three guides on the tour, one at the tower that hooks everybody safely to the zipline, and one at the other tower, who unhooks everyone. The third guide was supposed to take photographs because they did not allow anyone to have their cell phone with them on the tour. However, he only took one of the two RV Gypsies on one of the stair platforms and one of a young teen-age girl on a zipline. To say that this was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT to the two RV Gypsies is an understatement. Actually, Karen Duquette was pissed because she wanted the photos for this website. Karen did complain and received an apology - Big Deal!Otherwise, the guides did a really good job. Especially when one of the guides helped Karen across the three swinging bridges with the big open space between the pieces of wood, that were spaced quite a bit apart, and no handrails at all. Of course, she was hooked to an overhead line, but it was scary not having anything on the side of the bridges. She really did not want to dangle from the overhead line. |
