Matanuska Glacier State Recreational cabin and campsites are managed by Long Rifle Lodge. There is no glacier access from the recreational site, although there is a quick view of the glacier. Long Rifle Lodge had a dining area ideally located for a casual meal before or after a visit to the glacier. The dining room featured a view of the glacier and an exhibit of mounted wildlife, including a nine-foot grizzly bear. Open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the summer and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the winter. |

Wildlife exhibits inside the dining area. The menu was casual and the food was fair. Karen ordered a glass of milk and the server said that "no milk was allowed to be served at this lodge." WHAT! |
