Karen Duquette and her sister Ilse Blahak |
Karen Duquette and her sister Ilse walked around the City of Fairbanks photographing air vents. In recent years, public art has exploded within the urban heart of Alaska. There were thirteen vent pipes that stand adjacent to the streets and sidewalks of downtown Fairbanks and provide fresh air intake for the underground utilidor. These pipes were painted in original designs by thirteen local artists in the fall of 2012. As Karen and Ilse found the pipes, they saw designs ranging from musk ox to Marilyn Monroe in bunny boots! Paint the Pipes is a joint project of the Downtown Association of Fairbanks and Project Fairbanks. |

Coffee Shops are all over Alaska. Not all of the ones shown below were in Fairbanks. Some of them were interesting enough for Karen Duquette to photograph more than one view of the same coffee shop. And sometimes, Karen only took a photo of the sign because the building shape itself did not interest her. |
