The Kaatskill Kaleidoscope is the Worlds Largest KaleidoscopeTM, measuring 60 feet in height. It is located in Mount Tremper, New York, and housed in a converted grain silo. It was designed by '60s psychedelic artist Isaac Abrams and his son Raphael, a computer artist. The elder Abrams calls it the "first cathedral of the third millennium". It cost $250,000 to build and opened in 1996. The idea for its construction belongs to Catskills developer Dean Gitter, a local P.T. Barnum. There are three different seasonal shows, depending upon when you go there.

"Kaatskill" is the original spelling of "Catskill", as used by the 17th Century Dutch settlers in this area.

The two RV Gypsies walked through the mall to get to the kaleidoscope, and their senses were awakened by scented candles and Space Age Bachelor Pad music. The merchandise-to-attraction ratio is high -- the trademarked words "World's Largest KaleidoscopeTM" appeared on a lots of gifts and souvenirs throughout the mall. The two RV Gypsies PAID THE ENTRY FEE to view the kaleidoscope. They were escorted into a room within the silo, which barely fit twenty people, which was the maximum allowed in that room at one time. But on this date, the two RV Gypsies were the only two people there for the show.

Lee Duquette leaned back against sloping padded boards with sliding neck supports to gaze into the darkness above. Karen Duquette laid flat on the floor. The 10-minute long show began with an announcement to "Make sure to move your head from side to side."

While the two RV Gypsies enjoyed the visual explosion of colors and designs, they were also energized by a multidimensional sound track of music and effects. Karen Duquette could even feel the music vibrating through the floor.

After the show, the two RV Gypsies explored the gift shop, which was filled with amazing kaleidoscopes of all sizes and prices. Of course Karen Duquette can not buy much in any gift shop (much to Lee Duquette's delight) because they live full-time in an RV with no home anyplace else/
