Lee Duquette parked the RV at Clanton
/ I-65S / Dandy RV - KOA in Clanton, Alabama - a very nice campground.
They used their toad to drive to nearby attractions. They never spend
much time in a campground because they love to explore the local areas. |

On I-65 between Birmingham and Montgomery
there is a large water tower resembling a peach. Chilton County is Alabama's
peach central.
Clanton's big peach is 120 feet tall, and holds 500,000 gallons of
water -- but it is not the biggest. The
Peachoid in Gaffney, SC, is larger and double the volume. (Note:
Karen Duquette also posted the Gaffney Peach Water Tower below. They
saw the Gaffney Peach last year.)
Both water towers were constructed by the Chicago Bridge and Iron
Company: Gaffney's in 1980-81 and Clanton's in 1992. |

Two exits south of the big peach water
tower on I-65 is a place called Peach Park. A big peach statue sits
in the "garden."
Peach Park is located at I-65 and CR 31 S in Clanton, Alabama. It
features a big peach, a fruit market with homemade ice cream, a fresh
fruit bar, homemade cobblers, fried pies and a gift shop. There are
beautiful gardens adjoining, where visitors are welcome to stroll or
sit in solitude. There is also a small playground and a replica of a
lighthouse on the hill above Peach Park. |
