Proud Lake Recreation Area

Proud Lake Recreation Area has some of the largest camp sites that the two RV Gypsies have ever seen. Most sites could hold 3-5 RV's per site, so it was amazing to have so much room. However, many sites were not level because there are small hills, but since the sites are so large, it was easy for the two RV Gypsies to set up on the most level spot of their site. There are a few cabins, a boat launch area, canoe rental, picnic area, volleyball area, basketball courts, and a dump station. The campground host and hostess were really nice people, and they offered lots of things to do, especially for children. The only downfall of this campground is that it only offered electricity. No water or sewer hookup. The two RV Gypsies did not spend any time here other than to sleep in their RV because they spent most of the time with Karen's cousins Cyndi and Bruce who live nearby.

Internet service was only available at the office, not on the RV sites. Only three (3) TV channels came in, and they were not very clear. At the time that the two RV Gypsies were here, the campground was having water problems - their water was brown. So the two RV Gypsies used their own water. Mosquitos were out in full force. Karen had to put on mosquito repellent just to go from the RV to the truck. The photos below show water by the steps of the RV and on each side of the RV. ADVICE: If it is rainy season, park as uphill as you can at this park. Clotheslines may not be attached to trees, but may be attached to your RV or awning. The pool has specified times set aside as adults only. Pool closed at dusk. Propane was available.

Oscoda KOA - 3591 Forest Road, Oscoda MI 48750

Train tracks were right by the entrance to this KOA (see the first photo below). Trains went by at night, blowing a very loud whistle. The two RV Gypsies could see the train from the window of their RV. Water pressure was very low. The pool was very small. Rules here are fairly standard, except that clotheslines are permitted under RV awning, which is unusual. No tree to tree clotheslines as stated at most parks. Check in time was 2 p.m. Check out time was 11 a.m. Lots of television channels came in. This KOA had unsecured Wi-Fi, but it was very slow.

No photos were taken in the campground. It is a regular KOA, with a small pool, dirt roads, and lots of trees. They offered free shuttle rides to and from Mackinac Island. The two RV Gypsies got to the office at 11:50 A.M. for a shuttle that was due to arrive at Mackinac Island by 12:30 because that's when The boat leaves port for the island. At 12:20, the two RV Gypsies told the office that it was obvious that the shuttle would not get them there in time. The lady in the office said, "Well, I am not so sure you still won't make the 12:30 boat, but do what you want." Well, it is at least a 10 minute ride to town, plus parking, and buying a ticket - there was no way to make it for the 12:30 boat. Not very professional of this park!

This park had the fastest Wi-Fi we have ever encountered. WOW! Water pressure was not so great though. Too bad the lady in the office wasn't very polite.
