USA map showing location of Red Canyon in Utah

Lee and Karen Duquette,
The Two RV Gypsies: Full-Time RVers

drove through Red Canyon in their RV
to get to Bryce Canyon
National Park
August 8, 2012

Red Canyon is located along Scenic Byway 12, just 9 miles from Bryce Canyon. Passing through it is required to get to Bryce Canyon National Park from the west. Red Canyon is part of Dixie National Forest, rather than a national park or monument, so there are no entry fees to drive through or hike in Red Canyon.

Red Canyon, a spectacular oasis of rock nested in a vast forest known to locals as "Dixie." When thinking of Southern Utah, many think of red sandstone. Red Canyon has this in abundance. Like Bryce Canyon, Red Canyon is open year-round. Southwestern Utah is the ideal place for year-round recreation.

Below: Red Canyon hoodoos are unique in appearance and organization from those of nearby Bryce Canyon and Cedar Breaks. In Red Canyon the numerous red hoodoos line the road instead of filling an amphitheater.
