Haines is 14 miles south of Skagway. It is in the northern part of the Alaska Panhandle, near Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. The original Native name for Haines was Deishu, meaning "end of the trail" by the Chilkat group of Tlingit. |

Below: Karen and Lee Duquette ready for a jet boat ride through The Chilkat Bald Eagle Wildlife Preserve. The cost on this date was $159 each. The preserve boasts the largest gathering of bald eagles anywhere in the world. They did see some bald eagles high up in the trees, plus a Trumpeter Swan and a few moose, but the photos are not really worth posting here.(Once Lee and Karen Duquette became The Two RV Gypsies and traveled to Alaska several times in their RV, they saw lots of eagles, even close-up). Those are posted on this website. |

Below: Lee and Karen Duquette cooking their hot dogs after their jet boat ride through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve River Adventure, during which they saw may eagles flying overhead of in trees, plus a few moose, and a couple of Trumpeter Swans. The scenery was breath-taking, to say the least. |
