Informative sign about The Perry Monument

This Perry Monument is ONLY 101-feet tall. There is also a Perry Monument on South Bass Island in Put-in-Bay, but it was under construction when the two RV Gypsies were there in 2011. That monument is 352-feet tall. A link there will bring you back here.

Both monuments are dedicated to Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, who was a prominent naval squadron leader during the War of 1812. He played a vital role in the victory of the British in the War by strategically using the peninsulas bay as a natural protection for his men. It was also a place to construct 6 of the 9 ships in his fleet. It was named by the men of Perry's naval squadron who wintered here in 1813-1814 after the crucial Battle of Lake Erie in September 1813.

Below: As shown below, the plaque was missing from the 3rd side of The Perry Monument. The two RV Gypsies wonder if was because of protests. They believe that this country is over-doing protests. Removing plaques and statues can not change history. There was no plaque on the 4th side of The Perry Monument either.
