The two RV Gypsies, Lee and Karen Duquette
at KOA-Newport / Little Diamond - Thousand Trails
in Newport, Washington
July 11, 2013

This campground had dirty, dusty roads which is not unusual for most campgrounds and KOA's. There were NO sewer hook-ups here, and no Wi-Fi, but the two RV Gypsies were able to connect to their own Wi-Fi. The site where the two RV Gypsies parked their RV was nice, but only two (2) TV channels came in. The indoor hot tub had a big sign that no one under 18 should be in it, but when Karen Duquette went over there, two young kids were in the hot tub while their mother and little brother were in the outdoor pool. Karen would have said something to the kids, but the hot tub was not hot; it was not even slightly warm, so she did not stay. There was not any office, just a guard gate, so there was nobody that Karen could complain to about the hot tub not working properly or kids being in it anyway.

The ice cream sundae social they had cost $3 and they did not even have whip cream. The last KOA with an ice cream social only charged $1 and had whipped cream. Other than the hot tub issue it wa not a bad park. The hot tub is about the only campground amenities other than hook-ups that Karen sometimes uses. Mostly campgrounds are just a place for the two RV Gypsies to leave their RV while they go off and enjoy the area. After all, they are not really campers because they live full-time in their RV with no real house or rental apartment anyplace. They do pay for a campground in Broward County all year round, so they can return there to be with family whenever they choose.

Below: The recreation room - children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult at all times, but of course there are always people who think rules are for everyone but them. They are the reason campers get a bad name. The upstairs area was for adults only, which was nice. But still, Lee and Karen Duquette seldom use campground amenities other than their own site because they spend all their time exploring the nearby cities and attractions.
